I've spent 20 years running lighting businesses in the UK, from trade supply to importing. LightGuru is where I write down what I've learned, for people lighting their own homes.

Why I started LightGuru

The same questions came up again and again. What wattage do I need? Where should the downlights go? Is warm white always better? Most of the answers online were either written to sell a product or didn't fit how UK homes are built. So I started writing the answers down.

How I write the guides

I'm rewriting every guide on LightGuru in my own words and checking the numbers as I go. Each guide shows when it was last updated. When I quote a regulation or a standard, I link to the source. The full process is on the editorial policy page.

Businesses I work with

I still work in the lighting trade, including with Enso Lighting. When a guide mentions a business I work with, it says so in the same sentence, so you can weigh it up.

How the site pays for itself

LightGuru is free to read. It's paid for by adverts and by affiliate links, where a shop pays me a small commission if you buy through a link. That never changes what I recommend. Details are on how LightGuru makes money.
