Who writes the guides
LightGuru is run and edited by me, Mike Brain. I’ve spent 20 years running lighting businesses in the UK. I’m rewriting the guides carried over from the original site through late 2026; each guide shows the date it was last updated.
How guides are checked
For each guide I rewrite:
- Numbers (lumens, spacing, heights, costs) are worked out from the manufacturer’s data or the standard they come from, and the method is shown on the page.
- Rules and regulations, such as bathroom zones or fire-rated downlights, link to the official source.
- Prices are given as rough ranges with the month they were checked, because they change.
Images and diagrams
Diagrams are drawn for the guide they appear in. Many images on LightGuru are illustrations, some made with AI image tools, to show a layout or an effect; they aren’t photos of real installations. Photos from Unsplash are credited. I’m adding my own photos over time.
Keeping guides up to date
I review guides when products, prices or rules change, and at least once a year. The date at the top of each guide shows when it was last updated.
Money and independence
How the site is paid for, including the businesses I work with, is on how LightGuru makes money.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake, email contact@lightguru.co.uk. I fix errors quickly and note significant corrections on the page.
